Have you guys seen the "Flat Feet" yarn yet?
Basically, it's a piece of machine knit sock yarn which is then dyed...you unravel it and knit directly off the flat (Rav link here, company page here). This concept is really interesting to me because my favorite part about sock yarn is the excitement about how the finished fabric is going to look. Each flat of Flat Feet is different, so there is no clue about how the finished project is going to look. However, bopping around Ravelry, I noticed that I did not care for the finished projects if the flats were dyed with the stripes vertical to the provisional cast on. In the above pic of my flat (perfect colors for me, no?), the provisional cast on is on the left, and the fabric is dyed horizontally, which will most likely create an ombre effect, which is exciting to me. My other concern about Flat Feet is that you knit with it as you rip it, kinky yarn and all. You are not supposed to ball it, and the fiber is supposed to relax after the project is blocked. From my research on Ravelry, it sounds like this is true, but the finished pre-blocked sock at the LYS where I purchased my flat looked funky from the kinkiness of the yarn...almost a boucle effect. I am seriously resisting temptation to start knitting this immediately...I am so curious to see how it turns out!! Maybe I'll put the Koigu Shug aside and work a pair of basic socks (maybe Vintage Ribbed Socks?) and work on those as my "purse knitting".
I also have a bunch of baby knitting to work on too...a friend of mine had a little girl this weekend, and since they waited to find out the baby's gender, I waited until the birth to start the knitting. Little girl knits, what fun!

I got one of these too and I'm excited to see how it comes out. I think it's sort of gimicky - but who knows - it could turn out cool :)
