Sock Heaven
I finished a pair of socks this weekend! I actually started the first sock at Christmas, then put it aside, then picked them back up this week.
It is a basic sock with heel flap, turn heel, and gusset. Both the variegated and solid yarns are Celestial Merino by Lucy Neatby. The yarn was a dream to knit with! I can't wait to wear them and see how the 100% merino yarn wears...
I have also started a couple other socks...like this no gusset short row heel and toe sock designed by Julie from my LYS:
I had just finished doing the heel in this picture. I love this sock! No gusset, not a lot of counting, very simple! The yarn is Lana Grossa's Meilenweit Cotton Fantasy (which I bought a lot of from the LYS...this is a GREAT yarn!). My only issue was that I have a nice little line of holes where the short row shaping was turned (this pattern does not have wrapped short rows, but instead you do a yo when you turn). I tugged like heck to prevent the holes, but I still have them. Any suggestions Julie? :)
I also pick up a Broadripple Sock I had started last year. I had nuffed up the pattern, so I ripped it off the needles and tossed it in the "Bad WIP" pile. I decided to pick it up yesterday and fix it. My friend Rebecca and her 3 yr old Mackenzie visited me and my yarn stash yesterday, so she helped me get back on track, as she had just knit a pair for herself. I am using the suggested yarn, Cascade Fixation, in the most yummy pink, orange, and lilac:
Last night I did the heel flap and turn heel, and I plan to get through the gusset tonight. I also cast on for a pair of Timberline Toes (from Lucy Neatby's "Cool Socks, Warm Feet") yesterday. I am very intrigued by the heel and toe of this sock. I am going to adapt it for 2 circular needles (as I don't do socks on dpn's), and am knitting it in Lorna's Laces Shepard Sport in Lucky Stripe. Since I only knit 2 rows, I figured I wouldn't subject you to a picture! :)
So, why so many socks? Well, I've lost 11 pounds already in 4 weeks, so I am absolutely not going to knit anymore garments for me for a while. I do still need to finish Summer Cardi, but I think I'll get the sleeves done, then use it in class to demonstrate picking up sts for the button hole. Other than that, I'm sure it will be fall before I knit anything new for me. I think I am safe with socks...I'm pretty sure I'm not going to loose any weight in my ankles! :)

Wow 11 pounds in 4 weeks that's great! You just keep knitting those socks and losing that weight. I've been trying personally to figure out why all I want to knit is socks, maybe it's because I'm determined to lose weight myself and I don't want to knit something that won't fit next year.
Great job!

hmmm - holes in the heel. usually it means you're not doing the yarn overs quite right. or you need to really tug the stitches when you do the k2 or 3tog. i'm working tomorrow night, so i'll take a look.

Congratulations on the weight loss! I know how hard it ban be from bitter experience.
I'm currently battling through my first sock and am very impressed with the different ones you have recently made, I particularly like the colours in the Cascade Fixation one.
